S7 Ep06: Presidential Friendships: How They Changed History

Throughout the history of the United States, many Commanders In Chief knew each other and their lives intersected in a number of ways.  Sometimes their political and personal interactions would result  in conflict and other times in harmony. However, in some instances, relationships developed into strong personal friendships and mutually beneficial political alliances.

In this episode of Your History Your Story, our guest is presidential historian and author, Mike Purdy. Mike’s book, “Presidential Friendships, How They Changed History” examines the friendships of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft &  Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Mike gives insight into the lives and personalities of these two sets of presidents and explains how political ambition, mutual respect and conflict shaped their friendships and changed the course of history.  Mike’s vast knowledge of presidential history brings these four men back to life and helps us to understand the importance of communication and respect both in government and within our own personal lives…
